In the May/June issue, Chip Gross did indeed name nine great birding sites in South Dakota. Don't miss the best place, however, to find Gyrfalcons, Sprague's Pipits, Snowy Owls and booming Greater Prairie-Chickens...
Letters
I will add my voice to that of John Rakestraw, urging readers to try pelagic trips ("Beginners' Guide to Pelagic Tours," March/April 2005). My first trip was out of San Pedro, Calif., in August 2003.

I used to think birding was just for old people. My grandma had always liked birds; why should I? Then I had to study them for a science group at school. I didn't like it at first, but after a few months, I fell in love with it. I even got my mom to birdwatch. Now we take classes at our local Audubon center and go on trips just to bird.
Letters
I would like to thank David Lukas for stressing the importance of nestboxes for birds...
A Word of Caution
In Alaska, we have 50 percent of all Bald Eagles in the national. If planning a photography tour in February or March to Alaska, please be aware that some "natural" concentrations of eagles in coastal towns are not natural but the result of piles of fish guts in industrial areas.
Birdsong
Thank you for the interesting article about songs with birds in them (Editor's Note, July/August 2004). I immediately thought of my favorite conservation song, "Whose Garden Was This?" by Tom Paxton. John Denver recorded it later.
Hummingbird Festivities
I very much enjoyed reading the May/June 2004 issue, especially the articles about hummingbirds and Costa Rica. (I recently visited Costa Rica again.)
